Today, April 1, 2025, we celebrate 10 years since the proclamation of the Chartered Professional Accountants and Public Accounting Act. The CPA profession has successfully built on the proud and long-standing legacies of the three accounting bodies that preceded it.

Central to this progress has been a continued commitment to protecting the public interest, which is woven into our regulations, educational programs, support services, and communications.

The following milestones reached over the past decade have positioned the profession for the future ensuring the public's trust in the skills and competence of our members.

Unification - The three legacy bodies merge to establish the Chartered Professional Accountants of Prince Edward Island. This created a single regulator for all professional accountants, making it easier for the public and ensuring all professional accountants meet the same regulatory standards.

Membership - Over this period, the membership of CPAPEI has continued to grow, increasing by 19%, ensuring there are enough regulated accountants to meet the demands of PEI's economy. 140 candidates who completed the CPA program were admitted to membership.

Regulation - CPAPEI modernized its member management system through the implementation of a new system which offers improved regulation of members to ensure the organization is meeting its mandate to protect the public interest.

Member Development- CPAPEI adapted to the pandemic by shifting to remote operations swiftly and effectively, providing professional development through online platforms. This has allowed CPAPEI to significantly grow the number of PD offerings which has led to an increase in the number of members participating in CPAPEIs professional development program. Reinforcing members' commitment to meeting their requirements for continuous learning.

Pre-Certification Education - The profession reimagined the skills and competencies needed to equip new CPAs for future to create a new competency map that is evergreen. The new CPA Competency Map reflects the changing landscape of the accounting profession and the new workplace expectations and requirements. A new CPA Certification Model was approved that will continue to meet the profession's high standards while preparing learners for the future.
