How Do I Become a Member of CPAPEI?

I. Members of Another CPA Provincial Body

Members in good standing with another provincial CPA body may apply to CPA Prince Edward Island for membership. Members are awarded the Chartered Professional Accountant together with any legacy designation, if applicable and are entitled to use those designations in the manner prescribed on our website - Use of Designations.

Individuals that are holding themselves out as a CPA in Prince Edward Island are required to register with CPA Prince Edward Island.

Eligibility for Admission to Membership

To be eligible to apply for membership by provincial transfer, an individual must: 

  • Hold membership in good standing with another provincial body and have been granted or permitted to use the designations Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Certified General Accountant and/or Chartered Accountant by that provincial body. 

How to Apply for Admission to Membership 

Please submit the following: 

  1. Member Registration | Application for Membership & Application Fee
  2. Declaration for Admission to Membership (included with Membership Application) 
  3. If you are applying to transfer your Primary Membership, please complete the Provincial Membership Confirmation for Membership Transfer.  If you are applying for Associate Membership, please complete the Application for Associate Membership Provincial Confirmation of Primary Membership.  Confirmation of membership must be provided directly by the provincial body in the prescribed form and emailed to Applicants are solely responsible for contacting the provincial body and requesting that confirmation be provided directly to CPA Prince Edward Island. 

Public Accounting Licensing Eligibility

Admission to membership in CPA Prince Edward Island does not automatically qualify a member to be licensed as a public accountant. Members of CPA Prince Edward Island who intend to offer to perform or perform public accounting must apply and qualify for a public accounting license. II. CPA Candidates from the CPA Atlantic School of Business

For CPA candidates who have completed the educational, examination, and practical experience requirements for the CPA certification program or a legacy program, the below list outlines the final steps to membership: 

  1. Once you have completed the Common Final Examination (CFE) and you have submitted your final Practical Experience Report with the CPA Atlantic School of Business, using the PERT tool, the CPA ASB will review your file. 
  2. The CPA ASB will confirm that you have qualified for membership with CPA Prince Edward Island. You will receive a personalized email with application instructions from CPA Prince Edward Island. 
  3. Follow the instructions provided, submit your completed Member Registration | Application for Membership form and pay the required fees. 
  4. Upon completion of step 3, the Public Practice and Membership Committee will receive your application for its consideration. 
  5. If your application is approved by the Board, you will receive a congratulatory email from the Registrar welcoming you to membership. Upon receipt of payment of dues and fees, you will be permitted to use the CPA designation, and your name will be added to the membership register. 

III. International Credential Recognition

The pathway to obtain your Canadian CPA credentials through CPA Prince Edward Island depends on which international accounting body you obtained your designation and experience requirements.

CPA Canada has signed membership recognition agreements with international accounting bodies that permit their members to apply for the Canadian CPA designation.
