Since January 28, 2014, the legacy professional accounting bodies—the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island (ICAPEI), the Certified General Accountants Association of Prince Edward Island (CGA PEI), and the Society of Certified Management Accountants of Prince Edward Island (CMA PEI) —have been working together to form one professional body, CPA Prince Edward Island, representing over 600 members, candidates and students in Prince Edward Island. Effective April 1, 2015, the legislation was proclaimed unifying the three bodies.
The unification is also underway or has already been completed in all other provinces and territories in Canada and Bermuda. Each provincial CPA organization will be a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada), which will soon represent more than 190,000 professional accountants across the country and Bermuda, making it one of the top 5 accounting designation in the world.
CPA Prince Edward Island is responsible for the training and certification of CPA candidates/students. Under the Chartered Professional Accountants and Public Accounting Act, CPA Prince Edward Island is also responsible for regulating and the professional development of its members, and the protection of the public through its ethical standards and discipline process.
